The two main types of alcohol testing

  • Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) β€” measures current blood alcohol concentration using an evidential breath testing device, performed by a certified BAT technician. This is the DOT standard for on-duty alcohol testing.
  • EtG / EtS testing β€” a urine test that detects ethyl glucuronide, a byproduct of alcohol, for up to roughly 80 hours after drinking. Common in court, probation and abstinence-monitoring programs where any recent drinking matters.

When each is used

BAT is the right tool for workplace and DOT situations where the question is “are they impaired right now?” β€” pre-duty, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion. EtG is the right tool when the question is “have they had any alcohol in the last few days?” β€” the kind of monitoring courts and diversion programs require.

DOT alcohol testing? DOT alcohol tests must be done on an evidential breath device by a certified technician following 49 CFR Part 40. We're set up for it β€” often same-day. Call (559) 272-7953.

Fast, certified, and documented

BAT results are available immediately with proper documentation; EtG results come back from the lab quickly. Everything is collected under proper procedure so results stand up for employment decisions, DOT compliance, or a courtroom.

Answers

Frequently asked β€” Breathalyzer & Breath Alcohol (BAT) Testing

What's the difference between a BAT and an EtG test?

BAT measures current alcohol level via breath (are they impaired now?). EtG is a urine test that detects recent drinking for up to ~80 hours (have they consumed any alcohol recently?).

How much does alcohol testing cost?

Breath alcohol tests are typically $20–$45; EtG urine tests run higher. We'll confirm the exact price before you come in.

Is your breath alcohol test valid for DOT?

Yes. DOT alcohol testing is performed on an evidential breath testing device by a certified BAT technician under 49 CFR Part 40.

How far back does an EtG test detect alcohol?

EtG can detect alcohol byproducts for roughly 80 hours after consumption, making it popular for court and abstinence monitoring.

Can I get an alcohol test same-day?

Yes. Breath alcohol testing is immediate and walk-ins are welcome; EtG collection is same-day with lab results shortly after.
